Schools:
I work mainly for the Sheffield Gifted and Talented scheme
through Writers into Sheffield Schools which is a group of Sheffield writers
dedicated to getting children and young people writing. I am also available
for workshops at schools generally in Sheffield and surrounding towns and
counties. Sometimes these workshops take place in the school, but often
we go out to places of historical or environmental interest, museums and
art galleries.
Adult and Community:
I run Creative Writing and Literature classes
for the WEA and other organisations which want to get adults involved in
writing. Over the years I’ve worked in secure units, residential
homes, centres for the physically disabled and mentally challenged. I’ve
done lots of workshops for Sheffield’s literary festival, Off the Shelf,
and generally in Sheffield museums and galleries.
University:
At the moment I’m teaching Level 3 Writing Fiction
in the English Department at Sheffield University; Writing for Children and
Autobiography for the Institute of Life Long Learning. Next semester
I’ll be teaching a course on the Craft of Poetry at Level 2.
